Changes to prescribing policy from 1st February 2018

doctor-patient-hands

Earlier this year, the Berkshire West CCGs asked local people to give us their views on our proposals for changes to what is available on NHS prescription. We’re grateful to more than 750 people who took the time to give us their views. Since the consultation closed, we have collated and analysed the responses we received and produced this report.

The recommendations, which included the restriction of over the counter medicine prescriptions as well as the cessation of prescriptions for gluten free food were proposed and discussed by each CCG Governing Body when they met in public in September 2017. As a result of the recommendation being approved, the proposals for the gluten free food prescriptions will be adopted from 1st February 2018. We will be encouraging the restriction of prescriptions for over the counter medicines with immediate effect.

The CCGs have produced this leaflet explaining what this means to patients who require gluten free food as well as providing some help in finding solutions and assistance following this decision.
